“Art to me is creation and playing creator enlightening and empowering.”
Aparna Rajapandian interweaves the dreamlike and fantastical element of surrealism subtly with conceptual ideas. The feminine energy is prevalent in her works be it allusions to nature, spirit, physicality or form. This energy is reflected in her works through her subjects and is the common vein or the very soul of her art. Art to her is cathartic, the emotions that hitherto lain hidden find a conduit of expression and translate onto paper, in the process healing and creating space for the new.
Through her art she asks for the viewer to stop and heed the subtle, listen to the whispers and voices around, to savour moments and the larger picture unfolds. She tries to stir awakenings and evoke emotions through the subjects in her art who at times forefront the cause of endangered animals or the empowerment of women. And at times her central subject just tries to make one aware of a feeling, hidden or unspoken or just overlooked.
She believes that the solution to every problem begins with awareness and it starts with introspection and a better understanding of one’s own self. That awareness will eventually extend to our surroundings and the beings that people them be it human, animal or plant.
Every artwork of hers includes a verbal expression in the form of a poem or a story. She is also a published poet/author with Manda Publications and The Write Order. She has also illustrated a children’s book “Percy Hears the Secret” published by Balboa Press, Hay House.
