Astuti Kusumo was born in Yogyakarta on September 29, 1970. She pursued her education at the Universitas Pembangunan Yogyakarta (UPN Veteran), choosing to study business management. Astuti honed her painting skills from a young age, frequently participating in national and international painting competitions. She notably won championships in the Sirkit Piala Affandi and the ASEAN Children Shankar India in 1983. Astuti's works predominantly focus on women and traditional art, executed both in her studio and through on-the- spot painting. She draws inspiration from cultural heritage, the beauty of nature, and the current social dynamics. Astuti prefers to work in an expressionist style with impressionistic approach, evident in her journey to uncover the spiritual essence of objects and her spontaneity in creating art. She captures the beauty of objects with swift and spontaneous brushstrokes, resulting in unpredictable colors, abstraction, and final outcomes
Received the Yogyakarta City Cultural Award in the Art Practitioner category
Recognized by the Yogyakarta City Department of Culture for a painting featured in the Malioboro Stamp Series
