Art is like a collage of various fragments of life
Hery Sudiono is an established artist from Borneo island, Indonesia with a distinctive style of surrealism. His interest in surrealism and magical realism that explore deformative body expressions are inspired by the works of legendary artists such as Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Pablo Piccaso and Diego Rivera. His paintings are largely in dark tones and muted colours and often display deep thoughts and societal paradoxes. Ancient gods and mythology also intrigue him and recurrently form central subjects in his works.
Other subjects that prominently figure in his works are contemporary discourses, social issues, urban challenges and political milieus.
