“Expressions of the complexity of human life experience".
Aly Waffa is a well established artist from Indonesia who uses the scraping technique to create dreamy surrealistic paintings. The predominant elements in his works are tree roots and general flora, miniature human figures, farm animals and myriad of fantastic creatures. Each element has artistic significance – For example, the roots render deep philosophical meanings; as a foundation that continuously supports life even though it is never seen on the surface, while the small white human figures are the creations of Aly's imagination which were inspired by the limestone mining workers in his hometown. The scraping technique gives a distinctive character to his works and the choice of soft colors builds the overall mood that is dreamy and pleasing to the eyes.
