“Art is the food for my spirit and creating a sustainable world is my dream.”
Edy Suranta Ginting is a unique artist from North Sumatra, Indonesia. He is an environmental warrior who makes artworks from plastic waste as a social commentary. The plastic bags from huge garbage pits that he repurposes in his paintings, is an effort to educate the public about the added value of creative plastic waste processing and also a constant reminder for viewers to reduce use of non-biodegradable products. His works with facial images are the most sought after commissioned works. His works are widely collected by environmental activists across the world. A large portion of the proceeds from the sale of these works is routed back to community-based environmental projects in which he is directly involved. He is also an organic farmer, playing active roles in environmental conservation drives and campaigns against illegal fishing.
