Husin is an Indonesian artist who is a graduate of the prestigious Indonesian Institute of Arts in Yogyakarta. His surrealistic and detailed technique of painting is reminiscent of master painter Salvador Dali.
Though Husin was extremely active from 1986 to 1990 in the Indonesian art scene, he took a sabbatical for almost 14 years to reflect and contemplate on his craft and life in general. After the break, Husin returned with artworks which were conceptually and technically mature and socially relevant. The natural environment is a central motif in many of Husin's artworks. The phenomenon of modernisation which ignores environmental sustainability is often scrutinised in his paintings. Through the frequent depiction of water, animals, plants and smoke, Husin reflects on industrialisation and environmental degradation through his Surrealist artworks.
