Irennius Bongky is an Indonesian expressionist artist. His works are unique in style, with pen drawings super imposed over other media like acrylic or watercolour. Irennius' artwork is akin to a personal diary, presented like a monologue. His central figure is often a thin doll like character, alongside religious and philosophical quotes and illustrations, representing a longing for a better future.
The recurring theme of pining for better times and greener pastures originates from the hardships he has faced in life: family conflicts, prison time, drug abuse, a serious illness and so on. To counter all these negativities, his paintings always have positive vibes to it and is a constant reminder to stay happy.
Fun Fact: Alongside creating artworks, Irrenius works in a furniture company.
