Joan is an Indonesian artist who specialises in decorative batik paintings, in classic and contemporary styles. His painting were more expressive and surrealistic with inspiration from the subconscious and surroundings, but recently he has enjoyed making more abstracts. Joan’s batik is typically in bright colours with decorative patterns such as flower, lines and other elements and characters such as Budha, Rama and Shinta. Joan is a second generation batik artist and inherited his batik skills from his father. However, Joan has taken his artistic expertise further and explored other media like acrylics and oils on canvas as well.
