Ratih is an Indonesian artist who started painting professionally at a very young age. Alsaira’s paintings are mostly scenes from everyday life in Malang and Yogyakarta. However, what makes these mundane scenes special is her unique representation of the characters in her paintings. The deliberately distorted figures give a distinctive depth and creates a lasting impression on the viewer’s minds. The scene comes to life on the canvas. Ratih paints with the intent to stimulate and create a positive aura wherever her paintings are displayed and hence, her works are typically bright coloured and filled with happy characters .
Ratih Alsaira is most inpired by artist Gustav Klimnt and Indonesian painter S. Sudjojono, whose unique strokes and techniques she admires.
Besides painting, Alsaira likes to do knitting. She also gives free basic painting classes for kids in the villages near Yogyakarta, where she lives now.
