Art is the media to visualize beauty. To paint is to record beautiful places, people and moments
Wage is an Indonesian artist who worked as a ceramic designer in Japan and Taiwan for couple of years, before coming back to Yogyakarta in 2004 and focusing on acrylic art.
Wage shines light on the beauty of nature and sustainability, particularly through his animal artworks, such as “I Wanna Go Home.” The plight of a captive elephant is alluded to simply, yet effectively through the portrayal of a locked enclosure with the elephant’s photo on it. Buddhism is also a central motif in many of his works.
He draws his inspiration from renowned Indonesian artists Affandi and Basuki Abdullah.
Fun Fact: Wage was part of the theatre community and performed in Saitama Daigaku, while in Japan. Wage was once an art teacher at Guild Master Indonesia.
