Soriful Mondal is a realism painter from Kolkata. Trained in traditional methods of painting like tempera, gouache and wash technique, his works reflect a curious blend of these techniques while his visual vocabulary takes inspiration from Indian miniature paintings.
His practice closely introspects the everyday life and struggles of working-class people through the visual vocabulary of satire and fantasy. He brings out the class conflict which has been thriving on for decades all over the world, with the help of the pictorial and iconographical nuances of Indian miniature paintings. Popular icons, symbols and present day socio-political references in his paintings make it highly relatable to the contemporary context.
Soriful is also an accomplished commission work artist. He has done many projects, ranging from paintings on canvas to paper and from miniature to huge mural paintings. He also does portraits and full frame family pictures.
