Artwork Details

I wanted to do this portrait in black and white, not in colour. Black is the absence of visible light and white again is supposed to contain wavelengths of all visible lights. This whole summer I have worked in charcoal. It’s my comfort zone. It’s black. It’s darkness. It’s familiarity. It’s me. Darkness is ambiguity. In charcoal, one tweaks with darkness in order to bring out the image. Darkness is beautiful because for me it always provides adequate depth. No one really knows how much depth it offers, or, it's rather about how much one can really grasp. It is mystical. When one begins to understand darkness then it doesn't remain dark. It becomes purity and thus provides clarity too.
